Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW PE) boron-containing plates are efficient neutron shielding materials. They are made by uniformly adding boron carbide to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and compressing it at high temperatures. These boron-containing polyethylene panels can be used as linings in nuclear shelter protection projects to make up for weak spots in wall neutron shielding. The product is lightweight, tough, vibration- and moisture-resistant, suitable for upgrading old civil defense projects, can be customized to size, contains no heavy metals, and is easy to maintain later on.
